Eikonal contributions to ultra high energy neutrino-nucleon cross sections in low scale gravity models
نویسندگان
چکیده
We calculate low scale gravity effects on the cross section for neutrino-nucleon scattering at center of mass energies up to the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) scale, in the eikonal approximation. We compare the cases of an infinitely thin brane embedded in n = 5 compactified extra-dimensions, and of a brane with a physical tension MS = 1 TeV and MS = 10 TeV. The extra dimensional Planck scale MD is set at 10 3 GeV and 2 × 10 GeV. We also compare our calculations with neutral current standard model calculations in the same energy range, and compare the thin brane eikonal cross section to its saddle point approximation. New physics effects enhance the cross section by orders of magnitude on average. They are quite sensitive to MS and MD choices, though much less sensitive to n.

Brane-Production and the Neutrino-Nucleon cross section at Ultra High Energies in Low Scale Gravity Models
The origin of the ultra high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) showers has remained as a mystery among particle physicists and astrophysicists. In low scale gravity models, where the neutrino-nucleon cross section rises to typical hadronic values at energies above 10 eV, the neutrino becomes a candidate for the primary that initiates these showers. We calculate the neutrino-nucleon cross section at ult...
متن کاملUltra-high energy neutrino-nucleon cross section and radiative corrections
A cubic kilometer scale experiment has been proposed to detect cosmic neutrinos of energy from tens of GeV up to the highest energies observed for cosmic rays, ∼ 10 eV, or possibly even beyond. Detection efficiencies depend crucially on the neutrino-nucleon cross section at these energies at which radiative corrections beyond the lowest order approximation could become non-negligible. The diffe...

The cross sections of neutrino-nucleon scattering at high energies are evaluated with quark masses at next-to-leading order in strong interaction corrections. We compare the results with two kinds of schemes for treating the heavy quarks, the fixed flavor number scheme and the variable flavor number scheme for muon neutrinonucleon interaction, and discuss which scheme is more relevant. The opti...
متن کامل0 Extra dimensions and Strong Neutrino - Nucleon interactions above 10 19 eV : Breaking the GZK Barrier
Cosmic ray events above 10eV are on the verge of confronting fundamental particle physics. The neutrino is the only candidate primary among established particles capable of crossing 100 Mpc intergalactic distances unimpeded. We argue that consistency with the Standard Model at low energies, together with large interactions at high energies, directly indicates new physics of massive spin-2 excha...
متن کاملEnhancement and Suppression of the Neutrino-Nucleon Total Cross Section at Ultra-High Energies
We argue that high gluon density effects at small x are important for calculation of ultra-high energy neutrino nucleon cross sections due to the phenomenon of geometric scaling. We calculate the cross section for ν N → μX, including high gluon density effects, using the all twist formalism of McLerran and Venugopalan and show that it can be related to the dipole nucleon cross section measured ...
